Research

The holographic principle represents a fundamental paradigm shift in modern theoretical physics. While the first concrete realization of holography —the AdS/CFT correspondence— was discovered within string theory, in recent years gauge/gravity dualities have found significant applications that range from quantum chromodynamics and beyond standard model particle physics to condensed matter and cold atoms.

The main goal of my research is to use gauge/gravity techniques to inform the study of astrophysical black holes and put holography on the astronomer’s map too. This comes at an auspicious time as LIGO/Virgo and the EHT are now observing black holes with gravitational and radio waves at a qualitatively new level of precision.
