Lucas is interested in the social and economic influences of decision-making and behavior. His current research focuses on intergroup conflict resolution, affective polarization, and intellectual humility using methods from economics and psychology. His previous work has explored the impact of behavioral heterogeneity on the efficacy and equity of electric vehicle policies, relationships between implicit bias and racial inequities in healthcare, and gender inequities among social welfare programs.

Research interests: Intergroup conflict; political violence; democracy and democratic backsliding; and affective polarization.
