Alas, the solar eclipse of April 8, 2024 is the closest Boston will get to totality till May 1, 2079 (yes, STAHR already has plans). HOWEVER, Saturday, March 29, 2025 will be a pleasant spectacle in its own right, because the Sun will be rising during a partial solar eclipse! Sunrise is at 6:31 AM and the eclipse will wrap up around 7:10 AM. Hope for clear weather…

As a fun fact, it is not a coincidence that this eclipse is two weeks — half a lunar month! — after the total lunar eclipse of March 14. Eclipses always occur during a window of two or three subsequent new or full Moons, when orbital trickery means that the Sun, new Moon, Earth, and full Moon are all in a line. The more you know!
