Friends of Houghton Library will be pleased to learn that former Curator of Rare Books, Roger Eliot Stoddard, has presented to the Library a copy of his A Bibliographical Description of Books and Pamphlets of American Verse Printed from 1610 through 1820 published earlier this year by the Penn State University Press for the Bibliographical Society of America. Roger has been working on this project for more than forty years and we are pleased and touched that he has inscribed his gift “For the Houghton Library (Alma Mater)” and “In Memoriam/W.A.J./W.H.B.” Former Houghton Librarians William A. Jackson and William Henry Bond would also be pleased and proud.
Roger will be speaking about this project when he delivers the 96th George Parker Winship Lecture on Thursday 11 October 2012 at 5:30 pm in the Lamont Library Forum Room. His intriguing and entertaining topic will be “How I found the poets and how I left them: A librarian’s apology for bibliography.”
Roger and his editor David R. Whitesell, former rare book cataloguer at Houghton Library, will also be speaking at a celebration and all-day symposium at the American Antiquarian Society on Saturday 29 September 2012.
