Every student will participate in a 5-day (4-night) “Social Study” trip midway through the program. This mandatory project provides a hands-on application of classroom learning. There is no additional cost for the trip; it’s fully covered by the HTA tuition fee.
For 2025, we are planning the following trips (subject to change):
- 岛屿古城 dǎoyǔ gǔchéng: Explore the historic cities of Tainan and Hengchun
- 山林生态 shānlín shēngtài: Discover the natural beauty of Xitou National Forest, Sun Moon Lake, and Ali Mountain
- 海洋族群 hǎiyáng zúqún: Immerse yourself in indigenous life along Taiwan’s east coast
Each student may choose only one of the three excursions, with each group led by two HTA instructors. Detailed information will be provided once the program begins. Some trips may have limited capacity, and if over-enrolled, a lottery system will be used. Graduate students may, with approval from the Program Director, opt to conduct independent social study projects within or outside of Taipei.
Before departing, students will choose a research topic to focus on during the trip. Through interviews, tours, and performances, they will explore their topic in depth. After the trip, each student will submit a written report in Chinese, which will count toward a portion of their final course grade.
Detailed itineraries will be announced later. Check here for the itineraries for HTA 2024.
