Oral Proficiency Interview (OPIc)

At Harvard Taipei Academy, we administer the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview-Computerized (OPIc) as part of our commitment to measuring and improving language proficiency. The OPIc is a standardized, globally recognized assessment that evaluates functional speaking ability in a foreign language.

As part of our intensive summer program, students will take the OPIc at two key points:

  • Entry Exam: Conducted at the beginning of the program (Monday of Week 1) to assess current speaking skills and guide placement in the appropriate course level.
  • Exit Exam: Administered at the conclusion of the program (Monday of Week 8) to measure progress and demonstrate improvement in oral proficiency.

The OPIc is an interactive interview designed to simulate real-world communication. Conducted by trained ACTFL-certified testers, the exam assesses speaking ability across a range of topics and proficiency levels, ensuring a thorough evaluation of each student’s communicative competence. This assessment serves as a valuable tool in tracking progress and providing insight into your language development throughout your immersive learning experience at HTA.

The test-taking fee is included in your tuition. You DO NOT need to pay extra for taking the exams.

For 2025 HTA students, see more information about the Entry Exam and the Exit Exam.
