Important information about the exam:
Prior to beginning the actual OPIc, you will be asked to complete two items:
- a background survey to help the system offer questions and content of interest to you
- a self-assessment to help the system select a level of difficulty appropriate to your Chinese language level.
In completing the background survey, please select the topics about which you have at least some relevant Chinese vocabulary and will be able to express yourself coherently in Chinese—do not base your selections merely on whether you are interested in the topics.
In completing the self-assessment, please carefully read the description of each proficiency rank, and select your level based on an honest assessment of where you fall in the ranking scale. Your selection will impact the content, difficulty, and length of the subsequent exam. For this Entry Exam, the following selection is recommended:
- 120 students: level 2
- 130/130x students: level 3
- 140 students: level 4
Please note that the advice here is only for your reference. Individual cases may vary. If you think your oral proficiency level is higher or lower than that of your general classmates, you can choose one level higher or lower than the recommended level. Please make the choice responsibly based on your own situation. If you aim too high, you may run the risk of not receiving a certificate.
