We create direct and genuine connections among gun violence prevention scholars, journalists, and impacted communities to mitigate harmful media narratives and advance empathetic, ethical, and impactful gun violence reporting. By curating these connections, cultivating trust, and conducting collaborative research, we strive to inform journalistic practices and influence the programs and policies that will ultimately lead to a more nuanced, public health-focused approach and fewer people harmed by gun violence.
I think we need more community-informed, trauma-informed, evidence-based and solutions-oriented reporting but above all we need to stop harmful reporting on gun violence. I hope we can take away some new ideas, best practices and collaborative possibilities.
