Universidad Complutense de Madrid Confers Honorary Doctorate to Stephen Greenblatt

La Universidad Complutense de Madrid has generously awarded an honorary doctorate to Professor Stephen Greenblatt, John Cogan University Professor of the Humanities at Harvard University. The Complutense English Department and the Madrid Theater Institute jointly proposed Professor Greenblatt’s inauguration to the School of Languages and Literatures.
 
Universidad Complutense is honoring Professor Greenblatt for his contributions to literary scholarship, particularly for his creative work, “Cardenio,” a re-imagining of Shakespeare’s lost play that links The Bard to Cervantes.  
 
The degree conferral ceremony was held on March 13, 2024, at 11:30 AM, in the Auditorium of the Complutense University (c/ San Bernardo, 49 – Madrid).  Universidad Complutense also invested Professor Guillermo Owen, a professor of applied mathematics at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California with an honorary doctorate during the ceremony.
