The Modern Nordic World
Contemporary Scandinavia is deceptively complex and textured. In order to ensure that students who participate in this intensive examination of the Viking Age and its legacy fully appreciate that world a millennium later (and, importantly, the one in which we will be living), during the first days of the program, we offer a brief but comprehensive introduction to modern Scandinavia, focusing on Denmark and Århus. During this extracurricular orientation, we will touch on such topics as recent history, cultural policies, education, international relations, architecture and design, environmental programs, and communications.
