Talk: “Sports on the Moon – the value of project based learning”
Synopsis: Project based learning can meet and exceed all the objectives we have for our physics classes. Sports on the Moon will be used to illustrate how physics instruction can engage students, meet the National Frameworks and provide opportunities for students to be creative while exhibiting their physics content knowledge.

Bio: Dr. Arthur Eisenkraft is Distinguished Professor of Science Education, Professor of Physics and Director of the Center of Science and Math in Context (COSMIC) at the University of Massachusetts Boston.  He is past president of the National Science Teaching Association and past chair of the Science Academic Advisory Committee of the College Board.   He leads Active Physics and Active Chemistry introducing high quality project-based science to students.  He also chairs (and co-created) the Toshiba/NSTA ExploraVision Awards, involving 15,000 students annually for over 30 years. He leads the Wipro Science Education Fellowship program which is bringing district transformation through teacher leadership across the U.S.  He has recently been supporting novel educational initiatives in Thailand and India.

His latest book, “A Roadmap for Transformative Science Teacher Leadership – Building Meaningful Professional Development in Districts” was published by Routledge in February 2025.

Eisenkraft has received numerous awards recognizing his teaching and related work including the National Science Board’s Public Service Award and the AAPT’s Millikan Medal.  He is a fellow of AAPT and the AAAS and holds a patent for a laser vision testing system.
