Afro-Latinidades and World Diasporas Initiative

Afro-Latinidades and World Diasporas is a Harvard-based initiative launched in the 2024–2025 academic year by Lecturer of Latinx studies Aitor Bouso Gavín, with support from the Committee on Ethnicity, Migration, Rights, the Provostial Fund for the Arts and Humanities, Observatorio Cervantes, and the Department of History.

The initiative foregrounds the histories, cultural production, and political endeavors of Afro-Latinx communities in the United States and across global diasporas. Through curricular development and programming, our project brings artists, scholars, and community voices into dialogue via public events, lectures, and critical conversations, cultivating an interdisciplinary space where Afro-Latinx narratives are woven into broader intellectual and cultural conversations within and beyond the academy.
