Maya Bach
Maya Bach is working towards an ALM in Psychology at Harvard Extension School. She is one of the founding members of HES PSC. Maya studied Decision Science at Carnegie Mellon University, and then became very interested in understanding the way that human beings think, and how our brain physiology relates to our behavior. Maya first became interested in psychology as a high school student when she realized how high rates of depression were in high school populations. During her time at Carnegie Mellon, she was also a champion in fighting for increased mental health services, and worked to raise awareness about suicidality on college campuses.
Maya’s professional career has been centered in serving special needs populations. She worked as a Special Ed teacher for 3 years, and is currently working with a mental health organization called Braverhood, where she serves as a Community Habilitation Specialist working directly with one boy who has Down’s Syndrome. Maya is passionate about efforts to increase inclusion both in academic and professional spaces. After graduation this Spring, Maya hopes to work towards a doctorate in clinical psychology. Maya specifically has an interest in clinical neuropsychology, and how this field is intertwined with special education. She believes that clinical neuropsychologists need to have more direct interaction with the Special Ed teachers and therapy teams who spend their time educating and working with children with developmental disabilities and neurological differences.
