Graduate Diaries: Anab Mahmood

When Anab was researching capstone topics, devastating floods submerged vast parts of her home country, Pakistan. Her major in sustainability and passion for global development prompted her to investigate sustainable housing models for flood rehabilitation.

Timeliness and relevance were crucial in her capstone decision and allowed her to contribute to her community with science and empathy.

Due to a lack of publicly available data, Anab visited affected areas herself, speaking with locals and philanthropic architects to understand the people’s needs and technical feasibility.

During her research journey, she not only developed concepts for sustainable housing models but also initiated a Women’s Empowerment Program. This program provided a climate change-resistant income source, ensuring women’s independence through seasons.

Disease prevention, disaster response, and management were some of Anab’s other research topics of interest.

Which highly current event is drawing you in for your capstone topic?
