Bodegón Argentino

Katherrin Billordo, Harvard University

Oil pastel; 21 x 18 in.

From the artist: Referencing my family’s roots, this arrangement depicts aspects of the typical Argentinan meals I grew up savoring. It features a prepared mate (caffeinated, South American tea), a plate of steak topped with chimichurri, a potted ceibo plant (Argentina’s national flower), and alfajores (dulce de leche cookies) served on a traditional, wooden dining room table. It’s busy and almost overwhelming with color and texture. Similar to not knowing what plate to first dig into at the sight of a full table of food, my eyes don’t know what to look at first when viewing this piece. The variety in texture, color, perspective, and stroke lengths contributes nicely to the joyful chaos.
