Professor Marcella Alsan wins a MacArthur Fellowship

To Harvard Kennedy School’s Faculty, Students, and Staff,

I am thrilled to pass along the news that Professor Marcella Alsan is one of this year’s MacArthur Fellows!

A MacArthur Fellowship is often known as a “genius grant” and is described by the MacArthur Foundation as “not a lifetime achievement award, but rather an investment in a person’s originality, insight, and potential.”

In describing the award to Professor Alsan, the Foundation said “Alsan is bringing powerful evidence to bear on the importance of diversity in the medical profession and on efforts to improve health outcomes for historically marginalized and mistreated populations.”

I am so excited for Professor Alsan—and for all the new ideas she can develop and additional people she can help with this support from the MacArthur Foundation. We are so fortunate to have her at the Kennedy School.

Please see HKS’s press release below, and join me in congratulating Professor Alsan!

Best,

Doug
