The Digital China Initiative (DCI) at Harvard University invites faculty and graduate students to submit proposals for innovative projects that utilize digital tools and methods in Chinese studies. We seek to support research that aligns with DCI’s commitment to fostering the free flow of information and knowledge, training digital scholarship innovators, and exploring contemporary digital culture in China.
Aims of the Digital China Initiative:
- Digital Methods in Support of Teaching and Research: Enhance existing China-related research and teaching within Harvard for which digital methods are essential, including collaborations with digital humanities and digital scholarship centers in China.
- Training Innovators: Cultivate a new generation of scholars and students adept in digital scholarship across various disciplines.
- Researching Digital Culture: Investigate the multifaceted digital landscape in China, including censorship mechanisms, social media dynamics, online commerce, and the broader media ecosystem.
Eligibility:
- Open to faculty and graduate students of Harvard University.
Support:
- The Digital China Initiative will support selected projects. The level of support will be determined based on the project’s scope and needs.
Application Deadline:
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Application Process:
- Send an email briefly describing your project to the DCI at dci@g.harvard.edu
- DCI staff will arrange a preliminary discussion.
- Eventual proposals will be drawn up in consultation with DCI staff.
