Rich Fletcher is currently a research scientist at MIT and research faculty at Mass General Hospital. Dr. Fletcher directs the Mobile Technology Group within (www.mobiletechnologylab.org) which develops a variety of mobile sensors, mHealth mobile apps, and machine learning algorithms to study problems in global health and behavior medicine. Dr Fletcher has worked for over 20 years in the field of wireless sensors and RFID, including 5 years with the US Air Force and 15 years at the MIT Media Lab, producing over 20 US patents and several spin-off companies. In the field of medicine, Rich Fletcher has led several research studies funded by NIH, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID, Vodafone and the Tata Trust. Dr. Fletcher was a 7-year participant in the former USAID Saving Lives at Birth program, supporting several PIs on funded programs, and has worked on a variety of digital technologies for both neonatal assessment as well as maternal health. Bridging together the fields of engineering and medicine, Dr. Fletcher’s research utilizes a variety of mobile technologies and wearable sensors for use in mental health screening as well as behavioral interventions, and is also interested in the topic of port-partum depression. Dr. Fletcher has roots in Colombia (South America) and is also an MIT alumnus, with degrees in Physics, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology from MIT.
