One Village One Preschool Project
This project is led by Amelea Ng, supported by Xiaoyue Dai. This is a collaborative effort with our colleagues Peijing Qiao, Xuerong Wang, and Yinan Jiang at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
How do we create equitable and enriched early learning opportunities in low-resource, rural communities? We need teachers – teachers who are from those communities. How do we support these teachers’ development both pre-service and in-service? That’s the focus of this project, initiated by our colleagues Dr. Si Chen and Dr. Catherine Snow.
The One Village One Preschool Project (“OVOP Project”) is focused on supporting Early Childhood educators during their pre-service education in universities. We explore the use of culturally adaptive learning materials to support college students who are interested in pursuing a career in early childhood education. We want to learn about their challenges, needs, and joys. In this training development project, we explore whether a relationship- and interaction-focused course with culturally relevant video material from actual rural Chinese preschools could impact the way that students see themselves and understand their work in this career.
This project is funded by the China New Higher Education Group.
