Laura Weinrib is the Fred N. Fishman Professor of Constitutional Law at Harvard Law School and Suzanne Young Murray Professor at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study. A legal historian, she studies how social movements, and especially labor unions, have used the law as tool for political and economic change. She is the author of The Taming of Free Speech: America’s Civil Liberties Compromise, which traces how labor advocacy during the first half of the twentieth century made judicial enforcement of civil liberties into a defining feature of American democracy. She is currently writing a book on unions, corporations, and money in politics in the twentieth century.
