Research & Computing Services (RCS)

Research Computing Services (RCS) is a centralized service dedicated to assisting with faculty research projects, providing research software to the HBS community, developing and supporting research computing infrastructure, and providing technology training. Our services include:

  • Team of Statisticians/Data Scientists
    RCS staff include experts in advanced statistical methods, along with data science methodologies, including text digitization, visualizations, and natural language processing.

  • Compute Cluster
    The HBS compute cluster (HBSGrid) is an advanced computing environment that provides high-speed, high-capacity computing resources to enable HBS researchers to scale up effectively and efficiently conduct statistical analysis and programming.

  • Training
    RCS team members lead trainings for the HBS community on topics ranging from Introduction to Python to Natural Language Processing.

Behavioral Lab (BeLab)

The Behavioral Lab provides guidance on experimental and survey research projects, including planning and data collection. BeLab has a team that manages the behavioral research lab and small group rooms used for experimental research, and provides recruiting support and processes payment of participants. The team also supports online research via panels and new/emerging experiment-related technologies.

Marketing & Communications (M&C)

Marketing & Communications provides several services and can help clients build and optimize websites, demystify analytics, and create digital marketing campaigns with a focus on performance.

  • Web Traffic Analysis
    Want to know how many people visited your web pages, how each visitor got there, and what content they interacted with? M&C works closely with Web Services (IT) and KLS to make sure that all HBS websites are tagged and tracking behavior properly. We can help you understand what data is available and what you can do to improve the results.

  • Testing & Optimization
    How do you define success on your website? Newsletter signups, event registrations, document downloads, submitted applications? M&C provides tools and strategy to help improve any type of engagement. Solutions like Bounce Exchange allow you to display notifications to visitors at just the right time and A/B test those messages.
Harvard Data Science Initiative (HDSI)

Since its launch in 2017, the HDSI has worked across Harvard to unite leading computer scientists, statisticians, and domain experts from law, business, public policy, education, medicine, public health, and myriad academic disciplines to derive meaningful and actionable insights that shape the new science of data. Its research drives data-driven policy and analyzes implications of big data for human society.
