The Council on Academic Freedom
What we are. CAFH is a Harvard-wide faculty-led group dedicated to the promotion of academic freedom, civil discourse, and viewpoint diversity at Harvard. It was founded in April 2023, and now has 197 members (active, emeritus and former faculty) drawn from all of Harvard’s schools.
What we do. CAFH maintains a public website and an unmoderated listserv in which members participate in wide-ranging discussions related to academic freedom. CAFH sponsors public events that explore theoretical and practical issues surrounding its mission of academic freedom, civil discourse, and viewpoint diversity. CAFH issues statements, convenes discussions, organizes working groups, meets with faculty and school leadership, and generally advocates for academic freedom across the university campus.
