ASPR Science Communication Workshop: Application Instructions

Intended for students and early career scholars researching Old World prehistory, the American School of Prehistoric Research (ASPR) Science Communication Fellowship offers training and hands-on experience in public writing and multimedia communication. Selected applicants will attend one in- person workshop at Harvard University and several virtual trainings led by professional science writers and journalists. Fellows will survey the pop-science media landscape, learn craft and process in science communication, and publish a story for SAPIENS magazine about their research or perspectives. The ASPR, a department of Harvard University’s Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, supports research and education in old world prehistory.

Participant outcomes:

  • pitch and publish a story for SAPIENS magazine
  • refine your science communication skills
  • develop strategies for working with journalists
  • gain an introduction to video production, podcasting, book publishing
  • network with media workers

The in-person dates for the workshop are April 5-6, 2025. Meetings will continue remotely until the second week in May.
