
Patsy Phillips has collaborated for thirty years with artists, educators, scholars, and administrators who advocate for the understanding and advancement of contemporary Indigenous arts and cultures. She is in her seventeenth year (2024) as the Director of the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Arts (MoCNA) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Before joining MoCNA, Phillips participated in the planning and opening of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, Washington, DC in 2004. She has co-organized or sponsored exhibitions at the Venice Biennale, Sydney Biennale, and documenta. Phillips holds an MA in Writing from Johns Hopkins University, a Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies from Harvard University, and a BA in Anthropology from Southern Methodist University. Phillips is on the International Council of Museums – US (ICOM-US) board of directors and the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) board of directors. Phillips is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma.
